Buisness Area: Corporate Operations

Position Description

As Controller, the successful applicant will direct critical accounting and purchasing activities and staff, present recommendations to senior management, prepare financial statements and reports, and interface with customer organizations on project budgeting and forecasting.

This is a full-time position.

Position Responsibilities
  • Successfully manage the execution of accounting and purchasing operations in accordance with operating timelines, GAAP-compliant standard operating procedures, and other applicable SOPs and regulations
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce processes and SOPs that ensure the absolute integrity of financial and management reports
  • Lead and manage all A/P, A/R, G/L, fixed assets, billing, account reconciliation, tax planning and compliance, purchasing, and payroll activities
  • Lead and manage all month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings, including billing and account reconciliations
  • Interface with management to develop, build, maintain, and management reports and recommendations
  • Interface with the company's staff, external auditors, tax advisors, deferred compensation plan administrators, insurance brokers, and vendors
  • Interface with management and General Counsel to negotiate contracts that achieve appropriate accounting
  • Interface with customer organizations to develop and present project budgets and forecasts
  • Lead and manage certain Human Resources activities, including paid time off tracking and employee health benefits
  • Develop, build, and manage the company's financial operations staff, contractors, and vendors
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate accountants, bookkeepers, and assistants, as appropriate
  • Project a professional image and provide responsive, high-quality support
  • Develop and maintain the daily accounting and purchasing operations workplans and calendars that track activities, milestones, and initiatives
  • Support the company's growth goals by performing a range of reporting, planning, and presentation activities
  • Project a mature, professional image and provide responsive, meaningful, high-quality support and follow-up to management inquiries
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the key benefits and design characteristics of the firm's products
  • Travel (US and international) of less than ~5%
  • Develop and maintain the requisite computer skills to effectively utilize state-of-the-art office equipment and systems (Ongoing testing and certifications may be expected.)
  • Understand and comply with Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by senior management
  • Report to the President and CEO
Position Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ years successful accounting and operations experience with growing technology firms (Software industry experience preferred)
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Fluency in GAAP accounting standards and software revenue recognition standards (SOP 81-1, 97-2, 98-9, SAB 101 and ARB 45)
  • Stock option accounting experience (APB 25 and SFAS 123) preferred
  • U.S. Federal, state, local, payroll, sales, and use tax experience (Additional international VAT and sales tax experience preferred)
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting from a leading university
  • Documented, contemporary training in accounting and best-practices financial operations. CPA a plus.
  • Strong proficiencies in Microsoft Windows and Office applications (including Excel) and Intuit Quickbooks required
  • Must be willing to relocate to the Boston area permanently, for up to 2 years
  • Excellent presentation and communication (both oral and written) skills
  • Excellent time management, planning, and teamwork skills
  • Must be willing to work hours as needed to meet deadlines and needs
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to qualify for and maintain a corporate credit card with sufficient credit line to enable business travel
